Boomtown Festival 2022

‘The Grid’ stage Art Department

In August 2022, I was honoured to be contacted to be a part of building ‘The Grid’ stage at Boomtown Festival. As part of the Art Department we was involved in prop making and painting the stage, turning the base scaffolding and panels into a detailed, industrial run-down power station themed set.

During my degree, my practice focused on rave culture and the feeling it emits; immersing yourself in the beat and expressing it through dance. To be given this opportunity to help create a stage for ravers to experience this still doesn’t seem real! It was a great experience understanding how much detail actually goes into creating a festival and each element within it. Our team was made of fellow creatives whom each have different practices, meaning I learned lots of new skills and techniques to take forward in my career. It was exciting working on such a large scale; seeing all of the small pieces come together to form the final stage.

Boomtown is one of the most creative festivals out there, turning a patch of farm land into an immersive, otherworldly town for people to enjoy and rave in. It gives them the chance to escape reality and live in this surreal world, not worrying about anything else other than having fun - I am blessed to have been involved in this.
